MUST READ BEFORE RIDING

Welcome to your introduction to electric bikes! Here’s important information about your bike and how to comply with the law while riding.

  1. Familiarize Yourself
  • Before riding, get to know your bike, its controls, and read your owner’s manual thoroughly.
  1. Speed
  • Most e bike’s can reach speeds of up to 28 miles per hour (mph). Your 101 Bike is a Class 2 e-bike with a top speed of 20 mph.
  1. Walking Your 101 E-Bike
  • To avoid accidental motor engagement while walking, turn off the motor. Always walk with the motor off! 
  1. Riding in the Rain
  • If is advisable NOT to ride in the rain. If you do it’s at your own risk and be extra cautious riding in wet conditions. Light rain might be manageable, but roads can become slick. Your 101 Bike is water-resistant, but not waterproof. Focus on protecting functional parts like the motor and battery. DO NOT CHARGE your battery when wet.
  1. Motor & Pedal Assistance
  • Your 101 Bike features a hub motor, which is common in e-bikes and is located in the center of the rear wheel. It can be activated via a thumb throttle or pedal assist. Pedal assist mode engages the motor to support your pedaling efforts. The bike will not move unless you are pedaling or if using the thumb throttle which allows the motor to engage without pedaling.
  1. Battery
  • Always read your owner’s manual and follow the warnings for proper battery handling and charging. Use the provided charging bag when storing, transporting or charging your battery.
  1. Battery Recycling

  1. Brakes
  • The rear brake is on the right side and is crucial for slowing down. The front brake on the left provides additional stopping power but should be applied gradually to maintain control. Use both brakes together, starting with the rear and then applying the front brake slowly.
  1. E-Bike Laws
  • E-bikes are classified into three categories:
      • Class 1: Pedal assist up to 20 mph
      • Class 2: Throttle assist up to 20 mph
      • Class 3: Pedal assist up to 28 mph
  • Ensure you are aware of your local and national regulations, as they may vary by state, city, or county. The Consumer Product Safety Act governs electric bike regulations.
  1. First-Time Riders
  • Always check your equipment before riding. Here’s a pre-ride checklist:
      • Battery charged
      • Helmet securely fastened
      • Lights operational
      • Appropriate clothing (gloves, socks, shoes, etc.)
      • Brakes functioning properly
      • Tire pressure and tread depth
      • Chain slack and lubrication
      • Phone
      • Bike lock
  1. Additional Safety Tips
  • Do not ride outside an enclosed practice area until your familiar with you e bike and confident tin your skills. Always wear a helmet and eyewear.
  • Carry ID when you ride. Include an emergency contact with your ID. Make sure you have your emergency contact info available in your phone.
